Chapter 1386

At the end of the day, she was still their daughter. All the wealth they had built over the years was meant for Megan anyway.

She was their only child. Everything they had worked for would one day be hers. Whether they gave her the money now or later made little difference, so what did it matter?

The couple exchanged a glance, both thinking the same thing, then looked at Megan with tender smiles.

Megan noticed the way they looked at her and felt uneasy. She rubbed her arm and realized she had goosebumps.

Why did her parentsโ€™ eyes seem so strange?

Still, she didnโ€™t dwell on it. With her carefree nature, she trusted that if they said theyโ€™d give her the money, they wouldnโ€™t go back on their word.

There was no need to overthink it.

Meanwhile, Aurora followed alongside Lucas and his parents.

Although she still felt a little disappointed about not being able to sit with Megan, she reminded herself there would be plenty of chances in the future.

Besides, this was her first time at the family banquet. Making sudden decisions on her own really wasnโ€™t appropriate.

There was much she needed to learn.

Diana still held her hand, explaining, โ€œAurora, it wasnโ€™t that I didnโ€™t want you sitting with Megan. There are just things that canโ€™t be helped. Honestly, I was surprised to learn you two are such good friends.โ€

โ€œMom, donโ€™t worry about it,โ€ Aurora said, turning to comfort her instead. โ€œI didnโ€™t take it to heart, and I understand your concerns. You were right. I was the one being willful just now.

โ€œMegan and I have known each other since we were young โ€“ weโ€™ve always been close. Over the years, weโ€™ve stayed the best of friends. If I ended up with Lucas, itโ€™s largely thanks to her.โ€

As she said this, a blush crept across her cheeks.

Her thoughtfulness only made Diana feel more guilty. Was she wrong to have handled it that way? And yet, she was still stunned โ€“ she hadnโ€™t realized there was such a history between the two.

โ€œReally? So, she was your matchmaker? Then weโ€™ll have to thank her properly!โ€

Aurora smiled. โ€œItโ€™s fine, Iโ€™ll treat her to a meal later.โ€

Diana chuckled. โ€œIt should be us inviting her to dinner, not you.โ€

Her gaze lowered, unsure how to continue.

Aurora, sensing the shift in her mood, spoke up on her own.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mom. If anything comes up, Iโ€™ll tell you. Thereโ€™s no need to worry so much. Honestly, Iโ€™m not upset at all. What matters most to me is not causing trouble for you, and thereโ€™s so much I still want to learn from you.โ€

โ€œMy good girl, Iโ€™m so glad you can think that way.โ€

Aurora smiled gently.

Edward gave Lucas a playful punch on the shoulder. โ€œYou really know how to pick a wife. This girl is truly thoughtful. Who wouldโ€™ve thought youโ€™d finally settle down โ€“ youโ€™d been keeping your ace up your sleeve all this time.โ€

Lucas muttered under his breath, โ€œYou old man, always quick to catch on. How could my judgment ever be wrong? Besides, Aurora has always understood me.โ€

As he spoke, Lucas lifted his chin proudly.

But Edward struck again, adding slyly, โ€œAnd what about when you lied to her โ€“ did she understand you then too?
