When he reached Aurora, he spoke gently, “I didn’t notice you just now; I was just thinking of grabbing some food.”

He came up with an excuse to avoid looking too awkward. If he said the truth directly, it would do no one any good. This explanation was the safest middle ground.

Megan nodded without thinking, “So that’s it. I thought you saw us and deliberately didn’t say hello.”

Hearing this, Aurora felt a bit embarrassed for Leonard. Megan really was something–so blunt and careless with her words. Thankfully, the person in front of them was Leonard, who probably wouldn’t take it to heart.

Sure enough, Leonard smiled and said, “Of course not. You’re all my best friends; of course I’d come over to say hello. Besides, I’m still working with Walton Corporation, so I had to greet Aurora, the new successor.”

Aurora wasn’t surprised at all when she heard this. After all, her mother had surely handled all the publicity already. Very quickly, Leonard talked himself through it and walked over with a smile. There was no need to keep it a secret—this was exactly why everyone came to this banquet.

Leonard’s words were seamless, leaving everyone with a sense of ease, like a warm spring breeze. Being around him was like the refreshing air of a summer night or the gentle sun of winter–comforting and pleasant. And this comfort wasn’t forced; it came naturally. Sometimes, Aurora really enjoyed being with people like him. They understood boundaries, knew when to advance or retreat, and never left others in an awkward spot.

Megan’s eyes widened in shock as she asked Aurora, “Wait, you’re going to be the successor? How come I didn’t know about this?”

She looked utterly incredulous, as if Aurora had been hiding some earth-shattering secret from her. Seeing her like this, Aurora couldn’t help shaking her head. “You’re always so busy. How could I bother you with it? Besides, I only found out about it not long ago myself. Whether I’m the successor or not, you know me–none of that really matters. As long as I can do the projects well, that’s enough.”

Hearing Aurora’s explanation, Megan nodded, thinking she made perfect sense. She knew her best friend’s personality all too well. Her eyes were always on projects and more projects. If anyone looked for her, it was either about work or on the way to work. Even her personal time was scarce. For someone like her, being heir was nothing more than a title.

But Leonard didn’t see it that way. “Becoming the successor means greater responsibility, but I also know you’ll handle it. If you ever need my help with work, you must tell me right away. Don’t think of it as a bother–we’re partners after all.”

Aurora nodded seriously. “Don’t worry, I will.”

She valued Leonard as a partner very much. They’d always had a good relationship, and in work, she admired his attitude. He never dragged his words, always spoke directly, and treated everyone with a smile.
