Chapter 2341

Andrew did not say anything. Instead, he just looked down at the woman before him.

Mikaylaโ€™s eyes lit up with joy, thinking she had a chance. By closing the distance, apologizing earnestly, and adding her incomparable beauty to the mix, it was an unbeatable trump card. She believed that Andrew clearly could not resist her.

Ten years ago, she had been just a young girl. People could already tell she would grow into a beauty, but she hadnโ€™t yet come into her own, and her allure had not fully bloomed. Now, though, Mikayla was at the peak of her womanhood.

Even some of the most elite heirs in Chetvine had publicly pursued her, but she had politely turned them all down. After all, there were plenty of fish in the sea, and she was not ready to settle with one just yet.

Andrew suddenly said, โ€œMikayla, you know something? Right now, you look exactly like a woman I used to know.โ€

Mikayla froze, then blushed. โ€œAndrew, Iโ€™m guessing this womanโ€ฆ she was someone you used to be with, right?โ€

Andrew smiled. โ€œThatโ€™s right. We were together once.โ€

Mikayla interrupted eagerly. โ€œWait, Andrew, donโ€™t say any more. Let me keep guessing! Iโ€™m guessing she left you, and to this day, you still canโ€™t let it go. You feel deep regret, donโ€™t you?โ€

Before Andrew could answer, she pressed on. โ€œSo you see her shadow in me, donโ€™t you? Even though that hurts me so much, I just want you to be happy. If being with me fills the gap in your heart, then Iโ€™m willing to be the stand-in.โ€

She played the part of the tender, understanding woman perfectly.

However, Andrew was left completely speechless. โ€œYouโ€™re wrong, Mikayla. I only see her shadow in you. But she was never my regret, and youโ€™ll never be her substitute. Becauseโ€ฆ I donโ€™t need one.โ€

โ€˜Donโ€™t need one?โ€™ Mikayla blinked in shock, and then her face burned scarlet.

Humiliation swept through her like fire. She had just made a complete fool of herself. She had thought her appearance had stirred Andrewโ€™s memories of some woman from his past, that by leveraging those feelings she could move him. Instead, she had only embarrassed herself.

โ€œAlright. I guess I overthought things,โ€ she said, chuckling awkwardly as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. She forced a smile and said, โ€œAndrew, I just want to learn alchemy from you. So are you going to teach me or not?โ€

Andrew raised an eyebrow. โ€œWhy come to me?โ€

Mikayla said, โ€œBecause youโ€™re Mr. Goodmanโ€™s senior. Today I saw you refine a ninth-grade Soul-Restoring Pill with my own eyes. Andrew, whether itโ€™s martial arts or alchemy, youโ€™re my idol, my role model. Thatโ€™s why I came to you. Thatโ€™s all there is to it.โ€

Andrew smiled faintly. โ€œFunny, because from the moment I arrived in Chetvine, our relationship hasnโ€™t exactly been great. Mikayla, I know youโ€™ve grown up over the years. Youโ€™ve taken on your familyโ€™s responsibilities and learned the cost of reputation and gain.

โ€œSocietyโ€™s a giant mixing pot, and Chetvine is a stage for power and profit. Because of your position, your choices, and the needs of the Owens family, you decided to draw a line between us. I understood that. But now, all of a sudden, youโ€™re trying to cozy up to me, and thatโ€™s what I canโ€™t understand.โ€
