Chapter 30
Shannon sighed as she looked at how tired Chris was. She took the coffee cup from his hand and personally made him a fresh cup of coffee.
โMs. Wilder may not be as gentle as other women, butโฆ Ms. Wilder still cares about you. Every time you wanted to leave, Ms. Wilder got really anxious. It was only after Mrs. Lindaโs birthday banquet that Ms. Wilder found out aboutโฆโ
Shannon cleared her throat lightly. โOnly then did she find out that you two had divorced.โ
Actually, Shannon was even more curious about how Ms. Wilder had signed the divorce agreement. Given how much she cared for Chris, if she had seen the agreement in person, she definitely wouldnโt have signed it. Otherwise, she wouldnโt have stopped Chris from going abroad so many times.
So how did she end up signing it?
The fragrance of coffee spread throughout the office, and Shannon handed the cup to him, her voice soft. โMs. Wilder has been in this position for so long that sheโs bound to have some tendencies of someone in power. Youโve lived with her for many years, so you must know. As long as you go along with her, she wonโt make things difficult for you.โ
Indeed, over the years, Chris had been accommodating Jessica, and life had gone on like that. If it werenโt for Michaelโs return to the country, maybe Chris would never have brought up the divorce.
Shannon still had work to do. Chris finished his coffee alone in the tea room and then returned to the lounge, ready to wake Jessica up so that he could head home. Just as he was about to enter the room, he saw the door open from the inside.
โYou!โ Jessica looked a bit flustered and still had the sleepy look of someone who hadnโt woken up properly.
โLetโs go home.โ
There were cameras at the company, and Chris didnโt want to argue with Jessica there. He took the initiative to hold her hand. After all, he was a man. Shannon was rightโuntil he got the result he wanted, it was best to just go along with Jessica.
Due to the online public opinion, Jessica had been busy every day, but somehow she still managed to personally arrange for someone to change the locks of Michaelโs new house.
It was said that someone had tried to pick the lock in the middle of the night. The thief thought there would be plenty of valuable items in the newly renovated house, but before he could steal anything, the security guard found him, and the man was immediately taken away.
Michael wasnโt affected much, but Jordan got even more terrified, worsening her condition.
Chris had learned all of this while at the hospital.
Unable to go abroad, Chris settled some of his belongings in a dormitory, still with his old roommate. Jake came out of the bathroom, saw Chris, and was startled, thinking he had mistaken something.
โArenโt you supposed to be in Desland? I was planning to ask how youโre doing later.โ Jake still had droplets of water on him and casually wiped them off as he walked over to Chris.
Chris smiled bitterly, unable to answer.
Who would believe that he was actually trapped by his ex-wife and couldnโt leave?
โHey, this morning when I went on rounds with my mentor, I saw Michael in the news again. He looked quite haggard, bringing his daughter to get an IV. But this time, Ms. Wilder wasnโt with him.โ
Chris took a sip of water. โItโs just a fever, hasnโt she recovered?โ
โNo, I heard a thief broke into his house and scared the child.โ
Chris was rendered speechless.
This kind of melodramatic plot was happening to Michael? With the online public opinion, it was hard for Chris not to suspect that Michael had staged it himself. But if Jessica was willing, others had no say in the matter.
He had thought that he and Jessica would be fine, and the online public opinion had been mostly suppressed. Thanks to the manipulation of online influencers, there were fewer comments about Jessicaโs infidelity. Instead, many people now called Chris weak and incompetent.
As a man, he had been cuckolded and still couldnโt bring himself to divorce his wife.
Naturally, netizens said all sorts of insulting things. โSugar baby,โ โKept man,โ โCuckold,โ and other similar remarks.
