Shannon sighed as she looked at how tired Chris was. She took the coffee cup from his hand and personally made him a fresh cup of coffee.

“Ms. Wilder may not be as gentle as other women, but… Ms. Wilder still cares about you. Every time you wanted to leave, Ms. Wilder got really anxious. It was only after Mrs. Linda’s birthday banquet that Ms. Wilder found out about…”

Shannon cleared her throat lightly. “Only then did she find out that you two had divorced.”

“Hey, this morning when I went on rounds with my mentor, I saw Michael in the news again. He looked quite haggard, bringing his daughter to get an IV. But this time, Ms. Wilder wasn’t with him.”

Chris took a sip of water. “It’s just a fever, hasn’t she recovered?”

“No, I heard a thief broke into his house and scared the child.”
