Chapter 107

โ€œMr. Landon, Mrs. Gloria asked me to bring you some coffee.โ€ The butler bowed respectfully, setting the coffee on the table under the tree before retreating.

It was a warm afternoon in early summer. Amelia felt parched and reached for the coffee.

โ€œDonโ€™t drink it,โ€ Landon called out abruptly.

Amelia was startled. She whispered, โ€œIs the coffeeโ€ฆโ€ She exclaimed inwardly, โ€˜Somethingโ€™s wrong with the coffee.โ€™ She quickly placed the coffee back on the tray.

โ€œThe butler lied. This coffee didnโ€™t come from my mom,โ€ Landon said. โ€œBesides, I donโ€™t drink coffee often.โ€

Amelia was furious. โ€œThis is his home. And Patrick dares toโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHis whole family dares,โ€ Landon snorted, his sharp features hardening. โ€œI doubt todayโ€™s birthday party will be as simple as it seems.โ€

A chill ran down Ameliaโ€™s spine. She gasped, then pushed Landonโ€™s wheelchair. โ€œThen letโ€™s leave right nowโ€“โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Landonโ€™s tone was firm. โ€œWe canโ€™t spend our lives running from them.โ€

โ€œBut youโ€™re stillโ€ฆโ€ Amelia glanced at Landon with concern. She thought, โ€˜His bruises havenโ€™t faded yet. Iโ€™m not sure heโ€™s ready for another fight. Patrick is no ordinary opponent. He is a sadistic mastermindโ€”strong, cunning, and utterly ruthless. If only Landonโ€™s legs were better, heโ€™d handle Patrick easily.โ€™

Landonโ€™s expression softened. He smiled, โ€œWith you by my side, thereโ€™s nothing to fear.โ€

Amelia bit her lip. โ€œWhat can I do? Iโ€™m not good at anything.โ€ She could muddle through when managing a company, but she felt utterly helpless in situations like this.

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to do anything. Just stay close to me,โ€ Landon said, gently rubbing Ameliaโ€™s hand. โ€œNo matter what happens, donโ€™t leave my sight.โ€

To Landon, Amelia wasnโ€™t just his secret weaponโ€“she was also his Achillesโ€™ heel.

โ€œLandonโ€™s here?โ€ Just then, Patrick interrupted them. He was dressed to the nines as usual, exuding charm and confidence.

But in Ameliaโ€™s eyes, Patrick was nothing more than a well-dressed beast.

โ€œAmelia is here, too?โ€ Patrickโ€™s gaze slowly landed on Amelia, filled with an unsettling interest.

Amelia had deliberately avoided wearing the new dress sheโ€™d bought yesterdayโ€“because Landon wouldnโ€™t let her. Heโ€™d even said that dress was for his eyes only.

Amelia still remembered the fiery way Landon had looked at her this morning. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Amelia felt grateful for todayโ€™s conservative outfit.

โ€œOf course, I came. Who else would stand up for my husband if people started picking on him again?โ€ Amelia retorted sharply.

Amelia still held a grudge over yesterdayโ€™s events, which only seemed to please Landon.

โ€œYou two make quite the team,โ€ Patrick said, clapping his hands in mock admiration, his smile insincere. He thought, โ€˜Whoโ€™s really being picked on here? Look at my bruises. Iโ€™m the one whoโ€™s worse off.โ€™

โ€œIf youโ€™re jealous, Patrick, maybe itโ€™s time you found yourself a wife. Cynthia would love to have a grandchild,โ€ Landon drawled leisurely.

Sunlight filtered through the swaying branches, casting fleeting shadows across Landonโ€™s face. His expression, illuminated in patches, was unreadable.

โ€œIโ€™m in no rush,โ€ Patrick replied. โ€œBut you two should hurry and have kids. Unlessโ€ฆโ€ He deliberately let his voice trail off, his tone dripping with implication. โ€œAfter being bedridden for months, perhaps youโ€™re not up to the task anymore?โ€

Patrick directed the jab at Landon, but his eyes flickered toward Amelia.

Amelia was furious. Without thinking, she snapped, โ€œMy husband is more than capable.โ€

Patrick was speechless.

Landonโ€™s smirk deepened, amusement flickering in his eyes. He thought, โ€˜My wife is amazingโ€”so determined to defend me. She doesnโ€™t even care about appearances.โ€™

โ€œPatrick, Camila is here,โ€ Landon said, gesturing to the left.

Patrickโ€™s face stiffened for a moment.

Amelia suddenly remembered Aaron saying that Patrick even messed around with his cousin. Her curiosity piqued, and she eagerly looked in the direction Landon had pointed.

A woman in her thirties approached, carrying a chubby toddler who looked about two or three years old. Her face was round and her chest flat. Worse, she had neither beauty nor poise.

Disappointed, Amelia quickly lost interest. She thought, โ€˜Clearly, Patrick is just pursuing the excitement of incest. What a pervert!โ€™

When Patrick saw Camila, he immediately turned around and tried to leave.

But Camila called out to him, โ€œPatrick.โ€

Patrick had no choice but to stop, forcing a fake smile. โ€œHello, Camila.โ€

โ€œHold the kid for me for a minute.โ€ Camila thrust her chubby little one into Patrickโ€™s arms.

Patrick winced at the weightโ€”his fractured ribs werenโ€™t up for it. He let out a muffled grunt and grimaced in pain.

โ€œPatrick, I wanna ride the horse.โ€ The little one clung to Patrickโ€™s neck, kicking his legs as he tried to climb up to Patrickโ€™s shoulders. With every kick, Patrickโ€™s face turned paler.

Seeing her son struggling, Camila helped him climb onto Patrickโ€™s shoulders.

โ€œRiding the horse. Giddy-up.โ€ The little one gleefully flailed his arms while Patrick suffered even more.

Unable to take it anymore, Patrick yanked the toddler off his shoulders and bolted away.

โ€œMom, Patrick refused to play with meโ€ฆโ€ The little one pouted and was on the verge of tears.

Camila, fuming, scooped her kid up and chased after Patrick.

Amelia couldnโ€™t hold it in anymore, laughing until she bent over. โ€œHoney, it looks like heโ€™s hurt worse than you.โ€

Landon chuckled, too. โ€œHis ribs are broken. And I invited Camila here.โ€

Amelia burst out laughing even harder, clutching her stomach. She had assumed Camila was the victim, but it turned out Camila was a force to be reckoned with.

Now, Amelia was genuinely curious. She thought, โ€˜Whatโ€™s the relationship between Patrick and Camila? Why is he so scared of her?โ€™

โ€œAmelia, come in,โ€ Donna called out from the living room.

Amelia and Landon exchanged a glance, realizing something had gone off. They had spent the whole day shopping for clothes yesterday and completely forgot to buy a gift for Donna.

Given Donnaโ€™s disdain for Gloria and her family, Donna would surely make a big deal out of this.

โ€œWhat should we do? No gift,โ€ Amelia whispered.

Landon thought for a moment before replying, โ€œJust me waking up is the best gift.โ€

Amelia was speechless. She thought, โ€˜Mr. Kingsley, you sure have a high opinion of yourself.โ€™

Nevertheless, Amelia pushed Landon into the living room.

Elaine was also there, dressed in the pink lace dress she had bought yesterday and a small diamond crown, looking gorgeous and eye-catching.

โ€œGrandma, Iโ€™m awake.โ€ Landon sat in his wheelchair and looked at Donna calmly.

โ€œReally?โ€ Donna exclaimed, her face lighting up as she hurried toward Landon.

Clearly, no one from Henryโ€™s side had told Donna that Landon had regained consciousness.

โ€œGrandma, are you happy?โ€ Landon asked.

โ€œI am so happy. You waking up means hope for the Kingsleys.โ€ Donna grasped Landonโ€™s hand, tears streaming down her face from sheer emotion. โ€œYour waking up is the best birthday gift I could have received today.โ€

Amelia let out a relieved sigh. It seemed that Landon still held some sway with Donnaโ€”she had only given up on Landon because of his long coma. Amelia thought, โ€˜From Donnaโ€™s reaction, there is no way sheโ€™d let anything happen to Landon here, right?โ€™
