The company had brought her plenty of profit before. Now that she’d left, did she really have to push them to the edge?
Didn’t that wretched woman understand that the shareholders had been making things difficult for her lately? Or maybe she did know and simply didn’t care.
Maybe she’d never cared what would happen to Walton Corporation without Lucas’ support. Or worse, maybe she knew exactly what she was doing and wanted to watch it fall apart. After all, the company no longer had anything to do with her.
The more Tessa thought about it, the deeper her resentment grew. Her fists clenched tightly as Aurora’s smiling face flashed through her mind, and she wished she could rip that perfect smile right off. They were both Grace’s daughters, so why did Aurora have to be the beautiful one?
Every holiday and family gathering, the first person everyone noticed was always her. Every compliment and admiring glance were always directed at her. Tessa had spent her entire life standing in the background, nothing more than the green leaf to her sister’s flower. She couldn’t stand it anymore–years of being overshadowed, humiliated by her mere existence.
The only way forward now was to break Aurora and Lucas apart. But judging from what she’d seen tonight, that wouldn’t be easy.
Then a new thought struck her. Why not change her approach? Aurora was running her own studio now–public opinion was everything in her world. And she’d heard rumors that Aurora planned to appear on a variety show soon.
A slow, dark smile tugged at the corner of Tessa’s lips as her eyes gleamed with malice. The plan was already forming in her mind. She’d paved the way for Aurora, but if her sister refused to walk it, she couldn’t blame anyone else. Since Aurora showed no mercy, Tessa saw no reason to hold back. She had given her sister a chance. Now she would destroy her without hesitation.
The variety show was a perfect opportunity. If she could seize the moment, she could drown Aurora in public backlash. Public opinion might be invisible, but its impact on a person could be devastating. Tessa knew that better than anyone.
After settling on a plan, her mood instantly lifted. The anxiety that had been gnawing at her disappeared, and as she lay in bed, she even began humming cheerfully to herself.
The next morning, Aurora was up early. Without hesitation, she got ready and left with Lucas, who had packed up as well.
Behind them, Grace couldn’t stop herself from shouting, “Aurora Walton! I’m your mother. How can you treat me like this? Haven’t you thought about the consequences?”
Hearing that, Aurora froze mid-step. She turned around, her eyes fixed on Grace. Looking at the face that so closely resembled her own, she let out a bitter laugh. “If you had ever truly treated me like your daughter, things would never have come to this.
“You need to understand. I once genuinely longed for your love.”
Grace’s heart skipped a beat; she knew there was still hope. Taking a step forward, she quickly pleaded, “If that’s how you feel, then why won’t you give me another chance? I’m your mother. Do you really have to turn your back on me completely?”
