Chapter 1428
โLucas, I didnโt ask to see you for anything else. I just wanted to remind you, since youโre already with my daughter, please treat her well. Sheโs the treasure Iโve held in my hands since she was little.โ
As Grace spoke, her eyes shimmered with tears.
Lucas said nothing.
Watching her put on such a performance, he almost found it amusing. โMom, I couldnโt help wonderingโdid you manage to say that with a straight face?โ
Grace and Tessa exchanged a puzzled glance, neither quite understanding what he meant.
In the end, Grace forced an awkward smile. โLucas, if you have something to say, just say it directly. Iโm not sure what you mean with all these roundabout words.โ
โDo you really not understand, or are you pretending not to?โ Lucas asked bluntly. โYou know exactly how youโve treated Aurora. You have two daughters, but you favor one and neglect the other. Donโt you think thatโs wrong?โ
โBoth of my daughters are my flesh and blood. How could I possibly neglect one of them?โ Grace retorted irritably.
But Lucas had his own view. โThe reason I agreed to come here and talk with you today is because Iโve already investigated everything. I have evidence. So, denying it wonโt help you.โ
Graceโs anger flared. โNo matter what, Iโm still your mother-in-law. Do you really think itโs appropriate to talk to me like this?โ
Lucas let out a cold laugh and rose to his feet, towering over her. โEven if you are my mother-in-law, Aurora will always come first.
โI came here to hear what you wanted to say. As for everything else, I donโt care to discuss it, and donโt try to play emotional games with me.โ
Tessa shot Grace a quick look, and Grace immediately understood.
Forcing herself to stay calm, she said, โLucas, Iโm your mother-in-law and Auroraโs biological mother. I just think you should consider her feelings when you talk to me. If she gets caught in the middle, youโll feel bad too, wonโt you?โ
Hearing that, Lucasโs expression softened slightly. He had to admit, Grace did have a point.
In the end, he didnโt speak, only watched Grace quietly, waiting to see what she truly wanted to say.
Seeing that he had finally calmed down, Grace let out a small sigh of relief. โSo, can we sit down and have a calm conversation now?โ
Hearing that, Lucas replayed her earlier words in his mind before finally taking a seat. โMy time is limited. If you want to talk, youโd better get to the point.โ
Tessa quickly poured him a glass of water. โYou should have some water first.โ
Lucas only glanced at it without a word.
He didnโt touch the tea or the waterโboth women looked far too suspicious.
Even though this was Auroraโs family home, Lucas didnโt let his guard down.
In this house, the only person he trusted was Aurora.
Grace sat across from him and spoke earnestly. โThe reason I asked to see you today is quite simple. Ever since I learned about your true identity, I havenโt had a single good nightโs sleep.
โAfter all, my daughterโs background is so different from yours. Iโm afraid that once the gap between you grows, you might abandon her.โ
