"What are you up to this time?" Auroraโs face tightened with wariness.
She didnโt trust her mother anymore, not after everything that had happened.
"Oh, come on, what could I possibly be up to?" Grace said with an innocent expression that gave nothing away. "I just thought itโd be nice for you and my son-in-law to come home for a meal, thatโs all. Nothing else.โ
She looked so calm and harmless that, for a moment, it really did seem like she was just asking them over for dinner.
Aurora studied her closely for a while, then finally sighed and nodded. โAlright. Iโll bring him back when we have time."
โThatโs good. Just let me know in advance. Iโll cook all your favorite dishes.โ
Auroraโs expression flickered slightly. Did her mother even remember what she liked to eat?
โFine. If thatโs all, Iโll get going.โ
She didnโt want to drag the conversation out any longer.
On her way back, Aurora kept thinkingโhad her mother really changed? Or was this sudden warmth only because of Lucasโ status and influence? After all, in Ravenshore, no one would pass up the chance to be associated with the Carter family.
A trace of cold determination glimmered in her eyes. Whatever Graceโs motives were, she wouldnโt let anyone use Lucas or hurt him. He was her man. And since sheโd chosen to build a life with him, she wouldnโt back down halfway.
As for Tessa, Aurora would deal with her in due time. There was no rush. She had all the time in the world, and when she eventually returned to the Walton family, sheโd settle that score properly. She had always felt a pair of eyes watching her from the shadows. Now that she knew it was Tessa, she felt oddly calm.
After all, Tessa couldnโt run forever. So why waste energy worrying? It was better to focus on herself.
That night, after returning home, Aurora discussed a few project details with the director. They agreed to start filming the following Wednesday. Aurora had no objections.
โSure, Iโll go along with your schedule. Iโve already arranged everything at the studio, so you donโt have to worry.โ
It was the first time the director had worked with such an easygoing boss, and he couldnโt help feeling pleased. "Donโt worry, Miss Walton. With you on board, Iโm confident this show will be a big success."
โYouโre too kind, Mr. Smith. Youโre the one leading the team. Iโm just here to do my part.โ
The director laughed. โI didnโt expect it. Youโre not only beautiful and capable, but youโve got a great sense of humor too.โ
Aurora smiled lightly. โItโs getting late. You should get some rest, Mr. Smith.โ
โYou too.โ
After a few more polite words, they ended the call just as Lucas pushed the door open. He usually never entered while she was on the phone.
โWork call?โ he asked casually.
โYes,โ Aurora replied. โWeโre starting filming next Wednesday.โ
โThatโs coming up fast.โ
Aurora nodded, a faint sigh escaping her lips. It struck her that it had been almost half a year since she left the Walton Corporation. No wonder seeing her mother again earlier that day had felt so surreal.
โBy the way, when I met with my mom, she said sheโd like us to come home for dinner sometime when weโre free."
