Lucas drew in a deep breath. “Alright, then hand it over. Don’t worry, the raise I promised you is no problem. If I really manage to win her back, I’ll even give you a promotion, a raise, maybe some extra vacation.”
Desmond’s eyes lit up. Curious, he leaned closer to Lucas. “Mr. Carter, forgive me for asking, but has Mrs. Carter’s anger already eased a little?”
“How do you know that?” Lucas’s tone carried clear surprise.
Hearing that, Desmond started to show off again. “Of course I know. You came to work in a good mood today; that alone tells me plenty. And those tricks–women always love them. As long as a man puts in the effort, there’s nothing he can’t win over.”
Lucas nodded repeatedly. “Didn’t expect your instincts to be this sharp.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Carter.” Desmond pulled out a PPT he’d stayed up all night making. “I’ve already uploaded it to you. It’s packed with everything I’ve learned about pursuing women over the years. I can guarantee, use these methods and Mrs. Carter’s anger will vanish in no time.”
Lucas raised a brow, glancing at the computer. On the screen, the cover shone with the bold words: Wife-Chasing Guide.
For the first time, he truly understood what “cringe to the point of curling your toes” meant.
But Desmond, brimming with excitement, urged him to keep reading. “Trust me, Mr. Carter, it’s foolproof! I gathered loads of advice from people online and combined it with my own experience to create this PPT. It’s priceless on the market–you couldn’t buy it even if you wanted to. It’s filled with my blood, sweat, and tears. You can use it for reference or even follow it word for word if you want.”
He even started spouting slogans. “This guide will work in any situation. No matter how tough the other side is, persistence will always win!”
Lucas fell silent.
Anyone overhearing might think Desmond had paid for this guide and was reading out the advertisement. He was promoting it with such zeal.
Lucas, embarrassed to open it in front of him, waved him off instead. “That’s enough. It’s work hours now. I’ll look at your PPT after work–I’ve seen it. Don’t worry, you’ll be rewarded.”
“Thank you, Mr. Carter!” Desmond beamed.
Desmond showed a perfect eight-toothed grin.
It was the first time Lucas had seen such a genuine smile on his face. Even as he walked out, Desmond’s smile remained firmly in place.
The others grew curious, crowding around to ask what had happened. But Desmond refused to answer, only saying proudly, “Don’t worry, you’ll all thank me later. With Mr. Carter’s mood now, he definitely won’t make things hard for you anymore.”
Seeing his confidence, no one else could say much. And as Desmond claimed, if he had really solved his boss’ troubles, then life for them would get much easier. Lucas wouldn’t have reason to give them a hard time anymore.
Sure enough, Desmond’s words soon proved true in the meeting. Everyone noticed that throughout the entire session, Lucas remained calm and even-tempered, and when others spoke to him, he actually nodded from time to time.
