He hadnโt expected people online to be so bold.
Worried Aurora might see it, Lucas ordered the posts taken down immediately.
But even though everything was erased at top speed, the unease in his chest refused to settle.
Soon Desmond returned with a report. The posts had been removed, and even the photos saved on phones were wiped clean. Their hackers were skilled enough to make sure of it.
Lucas gave a small nod, though the crease between his brows never eased.
โNext time something like this happens, block it at once. Donโt bother reporting to me.โ
โUnderstood.โ
As Desmond left, he couldnโt help muttering to himself. What was the president thinking? Why hide this from his wife?
In the end, wasnโt he the one who would pay for it?
Everyone knew that nothing angered a woman more than deceit.
Desmond didnโt understand Lucasโ decision, but there was nothing he could do except respect it. After all, he was just an employee.
And judging by Lucasโ expression just now, if he spoke out of turn, he might just get shipped off to Africa to dig mines.
He shrugged and went back to his office.
He had to respect other peopleโs fate.
Inside the office, though, Lucas grew restless.
His eyes, usually calm and unreadable, now held a trace of panic.
What if Aurora found out? How would he explain it?
Why had he kept his identity hidden for so long?
Or rather, was it even right to do so?
Lucas stood, pacing back and forth in front of the tall windows.
He opened Auroraโs chat window, but she hadnโt sent him a single message.
Still, an unshakable panic churned inside Lucas.
He had no idea how to explain things to her.
Sometimes he even clung to a faint hopeโmaybe she hadnโt seen the posts at all?
After all, Aurora rarely paid attention to online gossip or comments.
Withdrawing his long fingers, Lucas tapped on Meganโs contact and dialed.
It happened to be her day off.
When his call came through, she was still asleep at home.
At first, she felt annoyed, but his persistence was clearโif she didnโt pick up, he would never let it go.
Megan rolled over several times before finally fishing the phone out from under her pillow with impatience.
She answered and pressed it to her face.
โHello?โ
โDo you know what time it is? And youโre still sleeping,โ Lucasโ cold voice cut through the line.
The words jolted Megan wide awake.
She shot upright in bed and glanced at the screenโher cousin was the one calling.
Her expression instantly shifted into a practiced, fawning smile. โLucas, what made you call at this hour?โ
โIโm asking youโdid Aurora mention anything to you?โ
โHuh? What do you mean?โ
Lucas pinched the bridge of his nose. โCheck your messages. Did she send you anything?โ
Though confused, Megan did as told.
She glanced at her chat with Auroraโquiet as ever, still paused at yesterdayโs discussion about the two interviewees.
