Chapter 926

Suddenly, Tyler’s phone rang.

Rachel couldn’t help but be snide. “Even though Mr. Hunt’s getting married, work doesn’t stop for him, does it?”

Tyler pulled out his phone from his pocket and saw that it was Thomas calling. He didn’t want to hide anything from Rachel and switched the call to loudspeaker mode the moment he answered.

“Hello,” Tyler said indifferently, as cold as he was in person.

“I just got discharged, and they want to hold a banquet for me to celebrate. Bring Rachel over and join us.”

It was clear to both of them that Thomas was in a good mood.

However, Tyler’s answer came the next second like a bucket of cold water over Thomas‘ head.

“Go ahead and have fun. Our wedding is right around the corner, and many things are still not ready yet. Rachel hasn’t had much energy recently, so we won’t be coming.”

Thomas fell silent for a few seconds, then said with unveiled disappointment, “You’re not coming? Not many people will be here, just a few relatives who visit often. Rachel’s stuck at home all day. I’m sure she needs some fresh air from time to time.”

But Tyler was firm.

“Really, there’s no need for that. Thank you for the invitation.”

Thomas didn’t say anything in response, but he didn’t hang up.

Rachel could sense the disappointment in Thomas’ voice and pitied him. She reached out and pulled the phone from Tyler’s hand.

“It’s me, Rachel. How about this? We won’t stay long because we have many things to do at home, but we’ll go for the meal. Is that okay?”

Thomas‘ voice brightened up at Rachel’s suggestion.

“Sure! As long as you two are willing to come, even just staying for the meal will do. Rachel, you’re so sensible. That rascal is used to being a loner.”

“Okay, we’ll see you tomorrow afternoon.”

Thomas said gleefully, “Sure, sure. We’ll wait for you tomorrow.”

After hanging up, Rachel returned the phone to Tyler, who looked at her with confusion.

He said in a low voice, “There’s no need for you to suffer for their sake. I made it clear a long time ago – when you marry me, I don’t want it to be the same as the time you married William. With him, you had to please the Lewis family members. With me, all you need to do is be happy.”

Rachel’s heart felt full at Tyler’s words. She gave him a bright smile and held his arm, leaning her head against his shoulder.

“I understand what you mean, but everyone makes mistakes. Your father is getting old. We can’t deny him something as simple as this. We’re just going back for a meal. It’ll be over before you know it.”

The muscles in Tyler’s face were tense, but the edges of his face softened when he turned to look at Rachel once more.

“Silly. I was just worried that you’d get bullied by the Lewises. Haven’t you had enough of those nasty relatives?”

“It’s fine. I never let them have their way, anyway. They can say all they like about me, and I’ll just refute them all.”

When Rachel was married to William, she was always the subject of ridicule of the Lewises. Back then, Thomas had found a good match for William. The lady had a superior family background and could help William in his career.

That was the reason why the Lewis family never liked her. They never failed to insult her whenever they had the chance.

At the start, William would speak up for her when that happened.

It made Rachel confident that she did not marry the wrong man – until he started getting involved with Samantha.

She would often have to turn up alone for family events, and even if William went with her, he would usually be on the phone with Samantha.
