Chapter 870

Seeing William running away, Thomas shook his head.

"He's already old, but still so immature. He doesnโ€™t even know what he wants and the kind of woman he wants to lead the rest of his life with.โ€

With a wave of his hand, he changed the subject.

โ€œYouโ€™d better spend some time thinking about what I brought up. Youโ€™re not getting any younger. Itโ€™s about time to settle your marriage.โ€

Tyler pursed his lips. โ€œIโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know if sheโ€™ll say yes.โ€

Seeing Tyler nervous was a rare sight. Thomas seized the chance to tease him.

โ€œSeems like Rachel really is here to torture both you and William. I know you always give your best at work and find any way to accomplish the task, no matter how complicated or challenging it seems. But that uncertainty on your face when you talk about a woman surprised me.โ€

What Thomas didnโ€™t know was that Tyler hadnโ€™t fallen in love with Rachel recently. He had loved her right from the startโ€“she was the only woman in his heart.

It had never changed. He treasured the time he had with her right now, because the chance to be with her was so hard to come by.

Tyler smiled wordlessly.

โ€œMr. Lewis.โ€

A crisp voice of a lady sounded at the door.

Tylerโ€™s attention was drawn to the door. He turned and saw that it was Rachel.

He hurriedly approached her, surprised by her appearance.

โ€œWhy did you come? Is everything settled on Ceciliaโ€™s end?โ€

Tyler held Rachelโ€™s hand in his.

Rachel looked at him.

โ€œYes, itโ€™s all settled. Dr. Elias told me that her condition isnโ€™t as good as we thought it was. She hid her condition from us after finding out, and it shows signs of deterioration. He said heโ€™d discuss things with the doctors here and see if they can come up with a better treatment plan.โ€

Tears welled up in Rachelโ€™s eyes as she spoke. She covered her mouth and looked away, trying hard to keep her emotions in check.

Tyler patted Rachelโ€™s shoulders comfortingly.

โ€œItโ€™s alright. Youโ€™re so close to Cecilia, itโ€™s completely understandable that you feel bad seeing her like this.โ€

Rachel took a deep breath, knowing that it was inappropriate for her to be so sad before Thomas. He was in poor health; any mention of Cecilia and her condition might affect his mood, too.

She quickly composed herself and walked to Thomas with a bag of pastries.

โ€œMr. Lewis, I know you enjoy the fresh pastries from this shop. I just bought them, and the baker said they were fresh out of the oven. Have a taste.โ€

Thomas smiled gleefully at the sight of the sweet treats, his usual authoritative and fearsome aura mellowing.

โ€œThank you. I heard youโ€™ve been busy these past few days. Do take care of yourself. I was just talking to Tyler about you two. I was too stubborn in the past and prejudiced against you. But after all that has happened recently, I know William was the one who let you down.

โ€œIt is our blessing that youโ€™ve chosen to be with Tyler. I donโ€™t have many days before me, but before I leave this world, Iโ€™d love to see you and Tyler get married.โ€

Rachel hesitated for a moment, stealing a glance at Tyler.

โ€œMr. Lewis, itโ€™s like this. Right nowโ€ฆ We havenโ€™t thought that far yet. Perhaps itโ€™s better for us to wait a while longer.โ€

Rachelโ€™s words came as a shock, not only to Thomas but also to Tyler.
